The files it opens

How it works
- 1
Drop the file
Drag it onto the page, or choose it. A folder or ZIP of many files works too. Files without an extension, as old Macs saved them, are fine.
- 2
It opens here
The page works out what the file is and reads it inside your browser, with the same open-source readers LibreOffice uses. Nothing is sent anywhere.
- 3
Keep a modern copy
Save documents as PDF and spreadsheets as CSV for free. Word and Excel files, and whole folders at once, come with the unlock.
Your files never leave your computer
Old files are often the personal ones: letters, family records, accounts, members' addresses. Most online converters upload them to a server you know nothing about. This one doesn't. The converters are downloaded to your browser once, and every file is opened right there, on your own machine.
The page sends no file, no file name and no contents anywhere. On the live site it counts only whether a file opened, by type (for example "wps, opened" or "cwk, damaged"), so broken formats get fixed. See the privacy page.
Honest about what it can't do
If a file is damaged, password-protected, or isn't what its name says, the page says so in plain words, and tells you what to try next. It never hands you an empty PDF.
Free to open. £6 once for the rest.
Opening, reading, printing, PDFs of documents and drawings, and CSVs of spreadsheets are free, one file at a time, for as long as the site runs.
£6 one-time, no account

Questions
Are my files uploaded anywhere?
No. The converters run inside your browser tab, on your own computer. Your files are never sent to a server, so they can't be stored, read or leaked. You can check: once a first file has opened, the page keeps working with your internet switched off.
What does it cost?
Opening, viewing and printing are free, one file at a time, along with a PDF of any document or drawing and a CSV of any spreadsheet. A one-time unlock adds Word and Excel files and converting whole folders or ZIPs at once.
Which files does it open?
Microsoft Works (.wps, .wdb, .wks, .xlr), AppleWorks and ClarisWorks (.cwk, .cws), WordPerfect (.wpd), Lotus 1-2-3, Quattro Pro, Windows Write (.wri), and classic Mac documents from MacWrite, WriteNow, Word for Mac, MacDraw and MacPaint, among others.
Will it work on my Mac, iPad or Chromebook?
Yes. It works in any up-to-date browser: Safari, Chrome, Edge or Firefox, on Mac, Windows, iPad, Chromebook and Android.
The page says my file is damaged. What now?
Try another copy if you have one: an older backup, an email attachment, or the original disk. Files copied off failing floppy disks are often cut short. The page tells you what it found, so you know whether the copy or the format is the problem.
Who makes this?
ALGD LTD, a small software company in Northern Ireland. The converters are open-source libraries from the LibreOffice project (libwps, libmwaw and libwpd), compiled to run in the browser.
