Still around, but not everywhere

WordPerfect is still sold for Windows, but most people don't own it, and there has been no Mac version for decades. Word opens some WordPerfect files and garbles others; Macs, iPads and Chromebooks have nothing built in.

WordPerfect documents usually end in .wpd, but older ones can be .wp, .wp5, .doc or have no extension at all.

Drop the file above. The page reads it with libwpd, the open-source WordPerfect reader used by LibreOffice, and shows the pages with their fonts, tables, footnotes, headers and footers. Pictures stored as WordPerfect Graphics (.wpg) are drawn too.

Save a PDF for free, or (with the unlock) an editable Word file. Password-protected documents open if you know the password; it is only used inside your browser.

Which versions

WordPerfect 4.2 and 5.x for DOS, WordPerfect 6 to X9 for Windows, and WordPerfect for Mac 1 to 3.5.

Questions about this

Does it keep footnotes?

Yes. In the PDF they are gathered in a Notes section at the end; in the Word file they are real footnotes.

Can it open WordPerfect's "reveal codes" exactly?

It shows the document as it printed, not the codes behind it.

Free to open. £6 once for the rest.
