Why your Mac shows blank icons
Microsoft Works was a Windows program, and its formats were never supported by Apple's software. Pages, Numbers, TextEdit and Preview don't open .wps, .wdb, .wks or .xlr files, and neither does Word or Excel for Mac. Works itself never ran on macOS (the old Works for Mac was a separate program with its own files, which this page opens too).
Open them in your browser
Drop the files on the box above, or click "Choose files". The page reads them with libwps, the open-source Works reader used by LibreOffice, compiled to run inside the browser. Documents appear as pages, and spreadsheets and databases as tables.
Save documents as PDF and sheets as CSV for free; Preview and Numbers open both. The one-time unlock adds Word and Excel files, which Pages and Numbers open and edit, and converting a whole folder at once.
On an iPad or iPhone
Open this page in Safari, tap "Choose files" and pick the files from the Files app, iCloud Drive or a USB stick. Saved PDFs and spreadsheets go to your Downloads folder in Files.
